Optimum Launches OptimumP2P Testnet with Support from Top Ethereum Node Operators

OptimumP2P Launches to Enhance Ethereum‘s Blockchain Performance
Leading Validators Collaborate on Innovative Data Propagation Network
Boston, USA, June 24th, 2025, Chainwire – A groundbreaking initiative has emerged in the blockchain space as seven prominent ethereum validators and node operators—Kiln, P2P.org, Everstake, Blockdaemon, Infstones, Luganodes, and Ebunker—join forces to implement OptimumP2P, a state-of-the-art data propagation network aimed at boosting blockchain efficiency and speed. This collaboration marks the first deployment of Optimum’s high-performance memory layer, specifically targeting improvements in block propagation for ethereum, with plans to extend its capabilities to other Layer 1 blockchains in the future.
These validators collectively manage approximately 15% of ethereum‘s total stake, underscoring the significance of their partnership.
“The collaboration with top-tier validators showcases strong trust in the architecture of OptimumP2P, positioning it as a vital upgrade for those securing ethereum’s foundational infrastructure,” stated Muriel Médard, co-founder of Optimum.
The Need for Enhanced Networking in ethereum
As ethereum continues to evolve, its roadmap emphasizes Layer 1 scaling. However, the peer-to-peer (P2P) layer has emerged as a critical limitation. In decentralized networks, transactions enter a mempool before being organized into blocks, which are then disseminated to all nodes. This process heavily relies on the speed and efficiency of data propagation. Currently, ethereum utilizes libp2p/Gossipsub, which suffers from significant bandwidth inefficiencies due to redundant message duplication. This limitation restricts throughput to approximately 15-30 transactions per second (TPS), increases latency, and affects validator performance and overall network efficiency.
“Enhancing data propagation is as crucial as improving execution or consensus for scaling ethereum,” remarked Thomas de Phuoc, COO and Co-founder of Kiln. “OptimumP2P tackles this often-ignored bottleneck, ensuring faster and more consistent propagation across the network. We are eager to continue our implementation and explore its potential to optimize validator performance at scale.”
Features and Benefits of OptimumP2P
OptimumP2P functions as a high-speed data propagation network, akin to a memory bus for blockchains, facilitating quicker and more efficient data movement. It leverages Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC), an innovative data encoding method developed at MIT, which divides data into coded packets, allowing receiving nodes to reconstruct the complete message optimally. This approach enhances block propagation speed, reliability, and bandwidth efficiency. The benefits of OptimumP2P are extensive:
- Layer 1 Blockchains: Capable of processing more transactions while consuming less network bandwidth.
- Validators: Receive data more quickly and consistently, improving reliability and potential rewards.
- Users: Experience reduced gas fees and more responsive decentralized application (dApp) interactions.
“At P2P.org, we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of deploying advanced infrastructure that enhances performance for our clients. OptimumP2P embodies the kind of foundational advancement we seek: MIT-developed technology that can fundamentally transform validator operations. We are thrilled to be among the first operators testing this next-generation networking layer, as innovation in blockchain infrastructure is central to providing the best staking experience,” added Alex Loktev, CRO at P2P.org.
Promising Results from Early Testnet
Validators can connect through a straightforward API that manages RLNC encoding and decoding. OptimumP2P complements Gossipsub, enhancing speed without compromising compatibility. Initial A/B testing has revealed significant performance improvements over libp2p, with expectations for further enhancements as the testnet progresses:
- 10x lower latency during high-traffic scenarios.
- Stable performance with message sizes up to 10MB (compared to Gossipsub, which struggles with high arrival rates at 4MB).
- Zero message loss, even under stress conditions.
The team plans to onboard additional node operators as OptimumP2P prepares for its rollout on ethereum’s Hoodi testnet this summer.
A Vision for All Blockchains
“By initiating our efforts with ethereum, we aim to demonstrate that OptimumP2P can effectively address real scaling challenges for one of the most widely used smart contract platforms globally. However, this is merely the beginning; we are developing infrastructure that can benefit any high-throughput network,” stated Kishori Konwar, co-founder of Optimum.
OptimumP2P is designed to be chain-agnostic, supporting various data propagation methods, including gossiping and multicast, across EVM, SVM, MoveVM, and more. As a high-speed memory layer, it enhances execution and consensus by optimizing data flow.
