Law enforcement was dispatched to the area following reports of an individual brandishing what appeared to be a machete in the street. Upon arrival, officers confronted the man, who advanced towards them before getting into the driver’s seat of a black Dodge Challenger. He subsequently fled the scene, prompting a brief police pursuit southbound on Figueroa Street.

The chase concluded just south of 12th Street, where the suspect stopped his vehicle and exited while still holding the machete. According to police, he charged at the officers, who then discharged their firearms, striking him. He was transported to a local hospital and underwent surgery by 3 p.m. The identity of the man has not yet been released.
